The beauty industry moves on so fast – blink and you miss it! Last year it was all about contoring and strobing (no idea what I’m talking about? Lucky for you I did a post on it as it broke last year! Find it here). Now the art of CHROMING has smashed onto the beauty scene! Here is my jargon-busting post on what it is and how to achieve it!
If you’ve read up on strobing – here’s the link again just in cases, you’ll know that it is all about highlighting your best features and making yourself look dewy and fresh. Strobing in itself is just a fancy word for HIGHLIGHTING. Just highlight your best bits but be careful not to go too far as you run the risk of looking like a sweaty mess! Strobing hit the world, both celebrity, everyday and make up brand, by storm!
I am a huge strobing fan and use it to apply my make up all the time!
So, lucky for you, CHROMING is as similar to STROBING as you can possibly get.
All you’ll need to achieve the huge Chroming look is another tool that you possibly already have in your make up bag!
The Senior Artist for MAC, Dominic Skinner, has ensured this trend go viral and Chroming really is his baby. All he does to achieve the Chroming look is use one of MAC’s gorgeous lipsticks as a highlighter, high up on the cheek bones, instead of just on the lips. Yep, it’s really that simple! Mr Skinner used a very light and irredescent shade that worked beautifully as a highlighter and can still be used for its purpose as a lipstick.
Obviously, this look would only work with nude and shiny shades – not your matte brown you’ve gone mad over this Winter!
Although this trend is brand new, it’s flooded my Instagram already so far this week!
I tried it very very early one morning this week so my job is not half as good as those Goddesses over on Instagram but it’s not a bad job. My only quip would be that my face did end up being a little sticky – lipstick all over your face is like actually having sticky lipstick all over your face!
Theres my poor attempt! Are you going to try your hand at Chroming? Send me pictures!

I jumped on the strobing trend as I bloody love highlighter, but never really came to terms with contouring. However, chroming?! I’m not sure I like the idea of having lipstick on my face haha! xx

I love strobing and only really contour my nose. I have to admit it was sticky and my hair kept getting stuck to my cheeks haha all in the name of beauty!

Thank you so much for explaining this to me as I was completely clueless about chroming. Not sure if I’ll give this new trend a go or not. I think it would feel so weird having lipstick on your face and i’m sure i’d end up getting it EVERYWHERE!

I don’t think it’s gonna fly in summer. Imagine being hot with hair down added to lipstick on your face!

The idea of this to me is just so odd, adding lipstick on your face! Think I will stick to Mary-Lou, I think she will do better than any lipstick… but I may just try it for a giggle lol

I was researching beauty trends for work and this came up and I was actually quite taken by it. I’ve never gotten into the whole contouring thing but this sounds fun to try at the least. :p

Hi outstanding blog! Does running a blog similar to this take a large amount of work?
I’ve no expertise in coding but I was hoping to start my own blog in the near future.
Anyway, should you have any suggestions or techniques for new blog
owners please share. I know this is off subject nevertheless I just had to ask.
Thanks a lot!
